The Oxford Dictionary of Quotations defines esprit de l'escalier as, "An untranslatable phrase, the meaning of which is that one only thinks on one's way downstairs of the smart retort one might have made in the drawing room."

I so remember reading "A Wrinkle in Time" and feeling like I had found something special. It was one of those books I looked forward to sharing with my own kids.

I'm glad she had a nice long life. Still, somehow 89 seems too young to go.
